Overcoming

Part I - Overcoming - Through a Clear, Steady Kingdom Perspective - Regardless of Circumstances

0:00 - “Overcoming” defined - Steadfast despite apparent defeat - What “overcoming” means. Sometimes if we didn’t receive what we were believing for we think that we didn’t overcome. No, it’s when you live past that seeming defeat that you overcome. Overcoming is not just answered prayer and the battles that we win. It’s that you keep your heart in tune with the race that you are called to - that you keep your eyes in kingdom perspective. That’s what makes us overcomers. We overcome defeats - losses - emotional turmoils - “unanswered” prayers. A real overcomer continues to look up and  move forward and trust God above everything.

0:55 - [Tech. difficulties.]

➡ 1:05 - There is something that I want to share this morning but this is important to touch in the beginning. It is not the Christian life to feel defeated. In the face of loss - of things that didn’t change that you have believed for - you are not defeated. You’re one with God. You’re accepted in the Beloved. You’re sins are forgiven. You’re eternal in Him. You’re never going to die.

1:30 - Your purpose - The reason you are on the earth - to leave a legacy to His name - respond like He responds. Not just to be blessed by God but to be transformed by Him back into His image.

1:45 - Not Christians to go to heaven. Emphasis on heaven. But heaven has come back into us. We’re Christians to be transformed back into what God intended for us to be from the beginning.

2:15 - The lie - between the fall and when Christ came. The wisdom of the world. All twisted. The Truth about your life is only found in Christ.

2:40 - Why He came - We need a right perspective on why Jesus came and rose from the dead. Most view the gospel as a way to have a better day. But that has nothing to do with why He came.

3:20 - He came to get you out of the old and into the new - out of sin and into righteousness - out of self and into love.

3:35 - We’ve turned the gospel into precepts that we apply to get a better day - extremely impersonal. Faith works through love (personal).

3:50 - Disappointment in the gospel - Many are disappointed that the gospel didn’t match up to what they expected. We haven’t preached the gospel. We’ve made promises for God. The gospel is not the promise of a better day. It’s the promise of oneness with Him - freedom from sin and self.

4:30 - He said that in this world we would have trouble but to be of good cheer for I have overcome the world. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. - John 16:33b

4:35 - But if He has overcome the world, why do I have trouble? - Because the “overcoming” that He is talking about is a change of your perspective of life, not your circumstances.

5:00 - Earlier reading from Job 12…

5:15 - When things don’t go the way that we think they should, we’re still called to respond through the heart and eye of God. That never changes.

Let Go of What’s Killing You

5:45 - Self-centered desires produces death - We’ve got to understand why we are Christians. Your self-centered desires are detrimental to you. It produces death. It limits you. What we are holding onto is destroying us. If you seek to save your life, you’ll lose it.

6:30 - You’re either for Me or against Me / You gather to Me or you scatter - That’s not condemning. That’s truth. Everything outside of Jesus is a lie. Everything that’s not in agreement with Me is in disagreement. And there is no life there because I’m life. He’s not condemning us. He’s crying out a truth. You were raised up in a lie. But I’m the way, the truth and the life. Come to Me and go to the Father through Me.

7:00 - So Jesus isn’t the way to heaven. He’s the way back to the Father.

7:10 - Self-centered gospel.

7:30 - Truth is what makes you free. Not ministry - until truth replaces a lie.

8:10 - Importance of a clear perspective of truth. We must preach the gospel clearly.

8:40 - We’re overcomers in that what you’ve done wrong is rendered powerless by the blood. Nothing can keep you from Him. If you are just willing to die, you can live.

9:15 - Regret - produces death - no life there. You can’t change the past but you can change who you are.

10:15 - Repentance - Regret is not the same as repentance. I wish I’d never done that. As soon as your heart gets to that place, God sees you as if you never did it. Sin is remitted. You’re free.

The Gospel is More than Getting Rid of Sin -

Transformation to Represent Him

11:15 - The sin issue is just the front end of the gospel - We make the gospel all about sin. Jesus died because I’m a sinner. Repentance is just the front end. Once there is forgiveness of sin what do you do now? The sin issue is just the front end of the gospel.

12:10 - If the gospel is just about sin, you might pray this prayer of salvation but still walk around unchanged - with no understanding or expression of who you were created to be in the first place.

12:30 - He’s not just forgiving your sins - He’s buying you back - Would He have paid such a high price if a sinner is all that you would ever be? He’s getting off of you what you’re not so that He can repossess who you are. You were created in His image from the beginning. He’s buying back your value, your purpose - the reason you are alive. He’s not just forgiving your sins. He’s buying you back.

13:15 - Transformation through relationship - son & daughters - He became sin. We become sons and daughters.

13:30 - I’m a beautiful bride. Love relationship.

14:30 - Not everyone wants to be Fathered. Allow yourself to be Fathered. Not everyone is jumping into His lap. The problem is with us, not the Father.

15:10 - Issues with earthly fathers.

15:25 - Failing to yield to the love of the Father - because of guilt, condemnation, etc.

15:50 - He died because I’m a son - not because I was a sinner. I can’t leave you that way.

16:10 - Value - Worth the blood - My life was worth it to God. If it was just about going to heaven, you would pray the prayer and beam up - get out of this filthy mess.

It’s about His Kingdom being Expressed Here and Now - Through Us

16:30 - “Great escape” mindset vs. the kingdom is here mindset - We’re not waiting to go to heaven. Heaven has come to us.

17:15 - We’re given authority.

17:25 - Pastor Don W. - preaches kingdom mindset to develop a kingdom culture. It’s all about heaven coming back here to the earth,

17:50 - God’s purpose for man - Adam & Eve - created in His image. Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth. Keep covering the earth until the whole earth is filled with His glory - that’s God’s plan. And you are the glory of the Lord revealed, when you yield to this gospel. That’s not blasphemous. It’s scriptural - read Ps. 8, Heb. 2, Rom. 8. You are His glory.

19:25 - The gospel is all about: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. - Mt. 6:33. What’s the priority here? Not searching the word to find a promise to meet your need - because your greatest need is Him. It’s the kingdom in you and through you. That’s your created identity and value. Anything other than this will frustrate your soul and the grace of God that wants to overtake your life.

Keep Growing - Leave a Legacy

➡ 20:00 - I’ve got time to do my edifying message now… Let read some scriptures. I’m going to blow a lie out of the water.

➡ 20:50 - Overcomers keep growing - What triggered what I just preached - the word earlier that was spoken about us being overcomers - whether our prayers appear to be answered or not - or whether you are seeing the victory that is promised. It just reveals that we are growing. We haven’t arrived. We need to keep growing and never look back. Don’t turn tail and run. Don’t get discouraged. Take the gospel so personally that you become the finished work of Christ.

21:10 - Leave a legacy - Picture of God proclaiming my life’s legacy to His glory - everything we went through… Showing the crucial points where it looked like defeat but we stood and became overcomers.

22:50 - Not leaving a legacy - But what a sad day it would be if we had this kingdom in front of us and all we did was fall for lies that prevent us from leaving a legacy. Crying - we didn’t see what our lives were all about. We didn’t express the kingdom that wanted to flow through us. We expended our whole lives in human wisdom and didn’t produce the kingdom.

23:50 - Is that going to be the judgement of the body of Christ?

Hindrances to Manifesting the Kingdom

24:15 - Deny yourself - Give back what was not given to you by God - what you received through the lie - the fall. I created you in my image. Let go of your image - it’s actually the image of the enemy - an effect of the fall - selfish.

25:20 - Giving up “rights”

25:45 - The gospel is about transformation from the inside out - looking through a whole new eye - perspective. Truth makes you free.

26:20 - Pastor Don W.’s heart to preach a kingdom message and develop a kingdom culture.

26:25 - Foundational kingdom truths - We’re not going to walk in the kingdom until we understand these foundational truths about why we are really born again and how loved we are by God.

➡ 26:30 - I blew 10 of the 15 minutes I was going to use to preach my edifying  message...

27:00 - Purpose in going to church - it’s in the living. It’s the kingdom.

27:20 - Why Dan preaches what he preaches - If you don’t understand your right standing with God, if you’re not free from sin and sin-consciousness, then you won’t manifest the kingdom. You’ll walk by people in need because you won’t be sure that you have what it takes and what they need. You aren’t seeing yourself really clearly in Him. You’ll walk by things that you already have the answer for in your spirit because you don’t see yourself in Him. You see yourself in you.

27:45 - Feelings of inadequacy - Many Christians don’t feel equipped to pray for the sick. A lot of that is due to inconsistencies in your identity - not just receiving what the Lord says about us - receiving the finished work of Christ. So we walk in a sense of insecurity and inadequacy - low esteem in Him. When crisis calls we don’t think we have what it takes.

28:15 - Guilt, condemnation and shame.

29:10 - Pure in heart - Satan takes advantage of the pure in heart. Constantly feeling like they are coming up short. Cycle of inadequacy.

Part II - Remission of Sin - Not Preached Clearly

Luke 24 - Repentance & Remission of Sin

30:35 - Luke 24:45 - Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, - Until Jesus rose from the dead, His own disciples were under the fear of death.

They didn’t understand the resurrection. And then there was grace that they might understand. We ought to thank Him for that.

32:30 - Stay in the word - Importance of staying in the word.

33:20 - Discerning the stranger’s voice. Depression, inadequacy, unworthiness… Those attacks won’t have a chance.

34:20 - Jesus - the I love you of God.

35:05 - v. 46-47 - Repentance & remission of sins- And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. - We’ve preached repentance but not remission of sin. Too many remain sin-conscious. Too many get discouraged by continuing condemnation. People striving to change themselves.

36:25 - The only way to change is to receive that you are changed through Him. That it’s not who you are. You are a son or daughter. We’re not preaching clearly the remission of sin.

36:40 - We’re afraid to preach remission of sins. Everybody sins.

37:00 - Repentance & remission - Repentance - I wish that I never did it. Then He sees you as if you never did.

37:10 - Go to Rom. 6…

37:20 - Having anything else as Lord of your life - Jesus is a straight shooter. He is the truth. He said that unless you love less all your stuff - houses and lands and your children and your wife - if you don’t love them less than Me, you can’t even be my disciple. Why? Because one of those things will become a ruling factor in your life that will mold your identity - how you respond. It makes something else Lord. If things determine your joy apart from Him, that’s where you will be attacked. It’s a form of idolatry - something you need outside of Him. It’s deception. There’s nothing you need outside of Him.

39:00 - Guard your heart - Perilous times - sober heart.

39:20 - I’m the steward of my heart. I don’t worry about how others judge my heart.

40:00 - Judging the heart

40:30 - Praying in faith - Confidence before God that He hears - because my heart doesn’t condemn me. Because I’m in love relationship and faith works through love - faith flows from that place. Faith comes out of knowing Him - out of relationship.

Romans 6 - Reckon Yourself Dead to Sin

41:15 - Romans 6 - I’ll just read…

41:40 - Let’s back up to Romans 5:19… to get the context of chapter 6

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

41:50 - v.19 - We were all born into Adam.

42:10 - Mother’s that feel like failures - No, the child is just going to need to be born again some day. They are born into that kind of behavior. Born again - born out of sin and into righteousness.

45:00 - Reject “sinner” identity - You’re not a sinner saved by grace - you’re a righteous child of God, filled with His Spirit to fulfill His glory. You’re born again.

45:50 - v.20-21 - So He is taking the sin identity off of me. He’s robing me with righteousness.

46:30 - Purity not perfection - Keep your heart pure - you don’t have to be perfect. In Him I am made complete. All things have become new.

47:35 - Continuing into Rom. 6 - v.1...

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

47:45 - v.2 - Dead to sin - We’re afraid to preach that we are dead to sin because we still have the potential to commit an act of sin. False humility - “we’re all sinners - we’ll sin any time now.” I don’t think sin. I think Jesus and sonship and righteousness. I’m not expecting to fail.

48:20 - If you stumble, run to Papa - Don’t run and hide - denial. I remain His boy.

49:00 - Running & hiding - living a lie.

49:45 - v.3-6

50:15 - v.7 - He who has died - to your own lusts, motives, agendas, your own purpose.

50:30 - Don’t violate your conscience. It’s not worth it. Give your heart to Him. You know when something goes against the grain of truth. Don’t hold onto what is destroying you. Be your own best friend and die to that thing.

51:40 - v.8-9

51:50 - v.10 - Since we’re in Christ and Christ is in us this is why the next verse says what it says… Here is where you and I come in…

52:00 - v.11 - Reckon yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus - He can’t just be talking about the possibility of sin or the potential of sin or the act of sin. He’s talking about the identity of it as well. Sin - period.

52:25 - John the baptist said - the Lamb of God who takes away sin… Where is sin? Away.

52:30 - Reckon yourself dead to sin - alive to God - A lot of us don’t do that. We let sin identify us. But the fact that I am a son is where I live from. I’m accepted. I’m right with God. I’m created in His image. And the new has replaced the old and I am going to fulfill the reason He put me on the planet. It’s called love.

53:00 - Fulfilling the reason I’m on the planet - love - Lady at Bob Evans - arthritis - hand unusable - prayed. Arthritis gone. Daughter weeps.

55:15 - If I am not confident in who I am in Him and who He is in me, I’d probably pass her by.

55:40 - Be a son - I’m not trying to be a Christian. Wake up and be a son. Then you’ll live that way. It’s the will of God that you receive His love and mercy, give yourself back to Him so that He can manifest Himself through you to people around you.

56:20 - Highest dividend on the investment of His Son - He died to restore us back to His nature.

57:00 - That’s the finished work of Christ - when a man becomes love.

57:10 - We partake of His divine nature - 2 Peter 1. Lust definition.

57:50 - Reckon yourself dead to sin - What happens when you begin to grasp this. Transformation from the inside out. Then your day will be revealing of the Lord. And you’re not trying to be a good boy or girl.

Forgiveness & Healing - Praying for the Sick

58:40 - Comments on praying for the sick…

59:00 - Blood paid for sins. Body paid for sickness - effects of sin. If sin is removed, the effects of sin must be removed.

59:10 - Marred beyond recognition. Sin made us unrecognizable.

59:20 - We were so messed up by sin that we didn’t even recognize Him when He came or during His ministry. You say, but I say. Beaten beyond recognition. That’s the seriousness of sin. Muck and mire. But now sin is remitted.

1:01:45 - The law of the Spirit of life has set me free from the law of sin and death.

1:01:50 - We make too much of the problem and fail to believe the answer. Get alone and thank God for freedom.

1:02:30 - Waiting to feel something - His love. No more walking by senses but by truth and faith.

1:03:00 - Honor Him - Honor His word above everything that you think and feel and above everything that man says. You love Him when you honor His word.

1:03:45 - Know who you are. Get alone with Him. Know Him.

1:04:50 - Closing prayer - Declaration of freedom.

1:06:50 - Don’t be needs driven.

1:07:00 - Invitation to the sick for prayer… Yoke in your body… Continuing to contend. Growing up into Him. Faith that works through love.
