Let not your hearts be troubled...
Various objections have been raised against Dan Mohler and what he teaches. Dan has been called a false teacher, a heretic and a deceiver. His teachings have been characterized as unbiblical, heretical, false, deceptive and new age. What follows is just a collection of my thoughts regarding these objections as a longtime notetaker on the teachings of Dan Mohler.
Precision of Language & Controversies
Having taken notes on many of hours of Dan’s teachings I have on occasion struggled to understand the precise meaning of Dan’s words or phrases - even to the point where I started a collection of his go-to phrases and their possible meanings (see 250+ entries on the Glossary page). So it doesn’t surprise me that controversies arise when the meaning of brief segments of Dan's teachings are pulled out for intense examination. These controversies can often be resolved by simply understanding the meaning behind what Dan has said. Other controversies go beyond mere misunderstandings and instead involve differences of beliefs.
Objections & Objectionable Phrases
Objection 1: Dan Mohler's teaching is false because he teaches that Jesus wasn't God during His time on earth. (Dan robs Jesus of His divinity during His time on earth.)
- He came as a man.
- He didn't come as God.
- If He came as God...
- Don’t say, ’"Well, that was Jesus."
- Why would God have to anoint Jesus if He came as God?
- How could Jesus be tempted if He came as God?
- Does God ever slumber? How could Jesus slumber if He came as God?
Objection 2: Dan Mohler's teaching is false because he teaches that Jesus lived his earthly life as just a man. And it's not logically possible for Jesus to truly live as just a man and still remain God. (Again, Dan robs Jesus of His divinity during His time on earth.)
Objection 3: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because his teaching, in essence, puts Christians on the same level as Jesus - just like Jesus - on par with Jesus.
- Don't say, "Well that was Jesus." (with hand motions)
- Jesus modeled the life that you and I were created for.
Objection 4: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because he teaches that Christians shouldn't think of themselves as sinners.
- He didn’t die because I was a sinner.
Objection 5: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because he teaches that Christians are sinless - they shouldn’t think that they ever really sin - that their flesh is perfect - (sinless perfectionism).
- You're holy, blameless and above reproach.
- You're free from sin.
Objection 5A: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because he teaches that Christians do not have to repent. They don’t have to confess their sins after coming to an initial faith in Jesus Christ.
Objection 5C: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because he teaches that Christians don’t need to subdue the flesh - in contradiction to 1 Cor. 9:27.
- You’re not fighting the flesh. That war is over.
Objection 5E: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because he teaches that once you are born again, there is no sin that can pull you away. (“I’ve never heard Dan Mohler… say that this is actually damnable - to go back to sin and practice it again and stay in it and not repent of it.”)
Objection 6: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because he lacks the basic theological training and knowledge that would keep him out of error.
Objection 7: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because he plays fast and loose with the scriptures. He frequently misquotes scriptures. He substitutes his own words into scriptures. He misinterprets scriptures. He takes scriptures out of context. He contradicts the scriptures.
Objection 8: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because he discourages Christians from seeking the deliverance ministry that they need.
- It’s not a ministry issue. It’s a truth issue.
Objection 9: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because he teaches just another flavor of the prosperity gospel where the believer lives victoriously in this world if he just thinks correctly.
Objection 10: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false in that he teaches Christians not to take the devil seriously - in contradiction to 2 Cor. 2:11.
- There’s two things that I never think about: sin and the devil.
Objection 11: Dan Mohler’s teaching is false because his teaching diminishes Jesus while exalting humanity to make the miraculous seem possible. (“And of course, what they are trying to do is to take Jesus and diminish His deity so that we can exalt humanity to the point where we’re supposed to do greater works than Christ did miraculously. That’s the whole point.”)
