Fasting - Self-control

What Jesus did is He didn’t take away fasting He changed the whole reason why we fast. They fasted in the Old Covenant to be approved and to hear from on high, to find favor, to get merit. You don’t fast for merit. In the New Testament, the New Covenant, He’s bringing new wine and new wineskins. He’s changing the motive of our heart. We’re fasting to know Him, to get the carnal nature… We covered this real heavy yesterday. I won’t go into it real long - the carnal nature, the voice of the flesh, to get that thing in order - to get self-control back into our lives to where the carnal cry or the cry of the flesh is no longer leading our life like it does in many cases.1
