Fasting - Flesh Following after like a Puppy

[Isaiah 58:3] And now here’s where the motive comes. “Why have we fasted, they say, and you have not seen? Why have we afflicted our souls and you take no notice?” See, they’re fasting just for a break through, for favor, for God to do them right and to bless them. They’re fasting to approve their own conscience and soul that’s already violated and afflicted, and rather than repent they’re doing a religious act to qualify instead of changing. You follow this? So then when they’re doing that and God’s not answering, they’re frustrated because they’re whole goal is self-centered, self-motivated. It’s all about them. So then they have a complaint. “Why have we fasted? Why have we afflicted our souls?” You’re not fasting to afflict your soul. Ok? You’re fasting to bring in line the indulgence of the flesh and to bring in order even your body, your hunger and the cry of the carnal nature. We talked about that the other day and I’ll get on that a whole lot today. Ok? That’s the reason you’re fasting - to get your spirit man above your carnal man. You’re fasting so that the voice of your spirit is what’s being heard and the voice of your flesh is in line and in agreement and following after like a puppy.1
