Fasting - Exposes the Voice of the Flesh
Fasting, number one, exposes the carnal voice, the
carnal way. It exposes the carnal right and privileges. They all gets exposed
in the process of the fast. The key is that you recognize them. If you just
fast to fast to reach a point in time, you won’t recognize them. You’ll
actually invoke those things and they’ll take you the whole way through the
fast and you’ll murmur, you’ll frustrate, “Oh my God, this seems so unfair. But
God, I’m doing it for you,” whatever we’re thinking. The prayer and fasting go
hand in hand. It’s not a fast. It’s a prayer and fast. And the whole reason He
said prayer and fasting is to renew the mind and get unbelief out… The “way
that seems right” is in our lives in so many subtle ways. Fasting exposes that.1
