Day 44
Know the Will of God Concerning Fasting
0:00 - Opening prayer - revelation...
2:00 - Read the word to know Him - So that you can know for yourself what is the will of God - It's really important that when you seek God through His word that you seek Him to know Him - period. No other motive. Not to prove anything right or wrong. If your will is to do His will... - John 7:17. Why is what I am saying so important? Because everything I have taught in this school - you could find a book saying the opposite. But you need to know in your heart because you have been with Him - not because you have read all of the materials and made a choice.
3:40 - Book on Why not to fast - Book that a participant had found on why we don't fast - because it's a new covenant and it's legalism. We're not in a fast. We are in a feast. You are just going to feed your carnal desire.
4:00 - Paul talks about fasting as a believer - Paul was in fastings often. 1 Cor. 7:5 - Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. - Fasting and prayer specifically mentioned. Under the NT, new covenant lordship of Jesus. But come together again because of your lack of self control. I don't believe that I have to live in a lack of self-control. I don't believe that I am damned to be driven by passions of the flesh.
5:30 - New purpose in fasting - Jesus didn't take away fasting. He changed the whole reason why we fast. They fasted in the old covenant to be approved - to gain favor. In the new covenant Jesus is bringing new wine and new wineskins. He's changing the motive of our heart. We're fasting to know Him - to get the carnal nature - the voice of the flesh - to get that thing into order - to get self-control back into our lives - to where the carnal cry is no longer leading our lives.
6:20 - Voice of the flesh - Every offense - every attitude - every justification of self all comes from that voice of the flesh. It comes from a mindset that reasons to make you right and something else wrong. And you feel that something is unfair. A voice called the way that seems right to a man. It's derived from the flesh. It will talk you into things and give you permission for things. It will reason for such a long time and in such a way that all of the sudden your conscience says, "OK."
7:30 - A return to Spirit led living - Roots of the voice of the flesh - "Well, did God really say..." The same voice of reason. When man fell he went from Spirit driven to flesh driven. So the intent of God is that we be transformed back to be led by the Spirit and not be led by the lusts of the flesh.
8:20 - So don't bother to read a book about why Christians don't have to fast.
Sexual Relations in Marriage
8:40 - Do not deprive one another - He writes this because of the lack of self-control. It's not about, "I need you." "Yeah, I know."
10:00 - v.6 - But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. - I say this as a concession, not a commandment. He's not making this a commandment because of our lack of self control.
➡ 10:25 - Struggling not to preach what I want to preach. People may not be ready to hear and it could cause detriment and strife. Hearing a message for a spouse. Judging a spouse because of a message. Using this truth to judge a spouse - to use it as a measuring stick.
Fasting
11:15 - Isn't fasting more like a lifestyle - not of seeking to beat down the flesh as much as live by the Spirit? -
11:30 - Flesh not a detriment - It is a lifestyle. I don't see my flesh as a detriment. I declare that my spirit is willing and my flesh is strong. My flesh isn't dragging me down. I'm not damned because I live in a body. I'm blessed because I live with God's Spirit. I'm not waking up a mess.
12:30 - Purpose of fasting - Fasting keeps you Spirit-minded until some of these things truly get established in your life and are more than just your doctrine. Don't just know the answers. Become the answers. They become your reality through union and communion with God. We aren't fasting as an event or work. We want to know God more. We don't want unbelief in our lives. We don't want to think like a man thinks. We don't want the way that seems right to a man to interfere. And when we are in a situation, and because we have been with Him and are built up in the Spirit, the Spirit of God intervenes and speaks to us and reveals truth to us in the time of need. We're not being deceived by the way that seems right to a man any longer.
13:15 - There becomes a place through the event of fasting that leads you in,,,
13:20 - No food, no water - Fast where God told me don't eat or drink. Not healthy in the natural. That's a God thing.
13:55 - Fasting & work - One meal a day and a glass of water. Don't just do that. God should tell you if He wants that. Didn't lose weight. Working full days. Incentive pay. Over 100 degrees. Impossible.
16:30 - Offended man - stress - young in the faith - touched him wrong in zeal - stress induced intestinal problem. Stress? What do you mean stress? Everybody has stress! You have to be careful how you come across. I thought everybody was experiencing what I was.
19:45 - No food, no water (cont.) - Go home and eat with family. What was this about? "I wanted to get your attention - so that you begin to live a fasted life - to where you pursue temperance and not just events of fasting - where you live in self-control."
20:35 - Bringing the voice of the flesh into subjection - That means what Paul is writing about is real. That there tends to be a lack of self-control in our lives even though we love the Lord. Our flesh still has a voice that is more than it should. You want your flesh voice to come into alignment with the spirit. Don't think that they can't be one. Don't think that you are damned to to have flesh that is obstinate and against the gospel all of your life. We are created in His image to be one with Him. You can surrender and die to yourself.
21:15 - Give the enemy no place - no out of control desires - The event of fasting takes you into the awareness of a fasted life. The Lord was calling me to a life of self-control. He didn't want the enemy to have any point of access through a lack of temperance - desires, needs, wants that were out of balance.
Sexual Union & Fasting - The Lie of "Sex Drive"
21:45 - So listen to what Paul says. He's talking about their sex drive. And what a lie that whole topic is.
22:00 - Don't deprive one another - 1 Cor. 7:5 - Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. -
22:10 - It's one of the biggest lies on the earth - "sex drive." It's as big as the healing lie. (That healing is not really for today - not supposed to be a part of our everyday Christianity.) And we have just fallen prey to those lies. Christian books compliment the lie a lot - the sexual drive lie and the healing lie.
22:50 - I have not been allowed to preach this in corporate setting. I'm not allowed because we are not all ready for it.
23:20 - Paul is acknowledging their lack of self-control. That's the reason he makes this weak statement. Don't deprive one another. People use this statement to get their needs met. They use this line on their spouse and don't read the rest of the verse and realize that all of their functioning is need and want and a lack of self control.
24:00 - Fasting and sex - Except with consent for a time - He's saying don't go on a fast and just continue in normal sexual union. Because if you abstain from normal sexual union, you just might get a real grip on true sexual union. But if you fast and continue in normal sexual union, it would kind of be like fasting some things and eating others.
24:40 - Participant comment on the flesh and pleasure.
24:50 - True sexual union - It can be. Or it can be the most beautiful thing on the planet because of love. Where the (hupa?? - presence? love? In Greek hupa means "under") of God is overshadowing and hovering because of love - because of selflessness.
25:10 - Don't bring the flesh into the marriage bed - Don't let the marriage be be defiled - Heb. 13:4. What does that mean? Don't bring your neighbor in? Well, of course not. But here is what it means: don't bring the flesh in. Because you live by the Spirit. It's not just infidelity. Don't bring the flesh in. Like Christians taking off their spirit man, hanging it up and having a roll in the flesh. And then saying excuse us Lord and then going back and putting on their spirit man. "We're back now."
26:15 - No, you live by the Spirit. And you will not fulfill the lusts of your flesh. You love your spouse. You don't lust your spouse.
26:30 - I used to think that men were the chief culprits on this issue. But women have their own issues as well. I used to think that men were the ones with the major issues and I think at large, men do.
27:00 - Abstain from sex during fasting - 1 Cor. 7:5 - Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. - Abstain from sex for a time. Because if it's nothing more than fulfilling pleasure then you are defeating the purpose of the fast. The reason for fasting is to not fulfill the desires of the flesh - unbridled passion - self-serving things.
27:50 - We've got to get past putting pressure on each other for sex. Go deeper and think deeper then you will see the beauty of this whole thing and never get caught in the snare of it.
28:30 - This topic is not well understood. I've never read a Christian book that is even close on this topic. It's just the world painted Christian. It's not even close because it's living by the Spirit and becoming love. Love doesn't seek it's own.
29:00 - Preacher on cd - Our sex drive comes from God - that's error.
29:25 - "Sex drive" - It's not a "sex drive." It's an expression of covenant union and love. It's opening yourself up to what is so trustable and will never hurt you and never use you. It's a whole other realm than what you and I were taught growing up. It's so holy and amazing.
29:50 - It's not a "sex drive." God didn't created young boys to fantasize and masturbate. That's blasphemy. And when you teach that stuff you give permission to have unbridled passions and serve the flesh. And now the woman they are with is bound to join their desire and not their love.
➡ 30:30 - Wow, I'm preaching it and I feel good preaching it. And I am just scratching it actually.
30:40 - It's legal now - Missing the point of love - Participant comment - The definition of lust - unlawful desires. What you just said defines unlawful desires.
31:00 - Some people get married feeling that now it's "legal." And the reason behind it is totally ungodly. It's not even Jesus. Just because we are married, now we can do it. We've missed the whole point of love. We've muddied up something so beautiful.
31:30 - Resenting the fast - 1 Cor. 7:5 - Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. - Paul is wise enough to know that if they enter into a season of fasting and prayer, they will get a grip on these things that are driving them. Self-control will be restored. But he is saying this as a concession, not a commandment so as not to lose the heart of the person and reduced fasting back to religion and legalism. Resenting the fast.
32:30 - Snared - Resenting abstinence from desire - Women perceive it as flattery. We feed each other this stuff.
32:15 - Day after saved aware of dysfunction of my manhood. So exposed. Woke up praying in tongues. I was loved. In the midst of that love, I became aware of the dysfunction. You couldn't have made me this way. It's totally selfish. It's only to meet a need. I'm not to have a need now that I have you. I was horrified.
33:30 - Adam & Eve - You couldn't have made Eve because Adam was lonely. How could he be lonely in You. There is no way he was walking around the garden with an erection saying, "God what do I do with this?" No, but because He was perfect love and the image of the Father - out of that fullness Eve was brought forth. Not because Adam had a need but because Adam was fulfilled. And out of the strength of his life Adam could love someone.
Two Becoming One
35:45 - Two becoming one.
36:10 - [In depth discussion of covenant in intimacy and the physical representations of the male and female anatomy.]
36:45 - Heb. 10 - Human sexual intercourse - Marriage covenant.
37:40 - Love vs. Lust - Perversion of the intent of sexual union. Created to be loved.
38:15 - Two becoming one - continued. You reproduce life from that place.
39:00 - Pressuring the other for sex. Excuses for lack of self-control.
39:30 - We use lack of sex as an excuse for not drawing closer to Him and becoming like Him. It's a lie.
Sexual Relations (cont.)
39:50 - Christian books on sexuality are so far off - 5 things a man needs - 5 things a woman needs. No, there is one thing that we need - to become like Him and you can scrap all of the rest.
40:00 - And then if someone messes up, you have a reason not to be OK because you didn't get your need met. And only Christ can answer these things.
40:45 - Compromise vs. No compromise - This truth preserves a young lady. A prize to be won. She will actually draw Christ out of a man. Because you won't compromise this.
41:10 - But there are no men like that. They are saying, "I'm damned to compromise because there are no men like that." You are saying, I need a man. It's all weakness. It's all deception. Get closer to Jesus and that will die. You won't be able to think that way.
42:20 - It's rare to get through engagement with purity.
42:40 - Purity - Couple in purity - Engaged - made the choice not to kiss. Bridal veil - unveiling of the face. Up until then, under the father's authority. You may now kiss the bride.
44:00 - Kissing early unleashes desire.
44:20 - What do you think of the modern day custom in some circle of exchanging a "holy kiss"? - I'm not real big on kissing on the lips. I'm not real aware of that.
45:00 - Christian dating service - Christians trying to chase the world painted Christian. Meat market.
45:20 - God's way - No, you seek Him. You grow in Him. You know Him. And He joins... He has someone that He can attract to Himself in you. He's not interested in hooking you up. He wants to join someone to Himself in you.
46:00 - Finding religion when spouse leaves - No, you need to get a grip. Why would God bring her back to you? He wants to bring her back to Himself in you. Why would He ever restore your marriage back to you. He wants to restore your marriage back to Him in you - Christ in you. And all you are doing is talking religious because of self-serving desire and heart break and self-serving need. I'm going to give you truth.
47:20 - Marital Separation - only with a vision for restoration. It can teach you to be apart. Live alone in a hardening way. It can work out in grace.
48:50 - Falling in "love" during separation.
49:15 - v.6 - But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. - concession not commandment.
49:20 - v.7 - For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. - He's not married and he is OK sexually. He is easing them into self-control. Don't let it be too long. But he is not giving them permission to stay that way. He is telling them to fast and pray.
50:20 - I've heard it all in counselling.
50:30 - Masturbation - All I think of is my wife. The mind works in ways to give you permission to please the flesh. And if you let it go on long enough you actually begin to think that you are right. It's there to win you.
50:55 - Participant comment - Ps. 24 - masturbation - unclean hands. Clean hands and a pure heart.
51:25 - Violation of conscience. You won't enter into relationship. Shipwrecked faith. Our hands through the blood are spotless. When your conscious is violated, you can go through all motions but you are greyed out and you will never grow in intimacy with God.
53:15 - Participant comment - approaching with confidence.
53:30 - Violation of conscience. Justifications for a behavior that doesn't produce life.
Counseling - Snatching out of the Fire
54:05 - Adulterous couple - I'm in hell - Couple who told Dan that their adulterous relationship was an answer to God. God took them out of their marriages to get them healed in their heart. Minister to one another in the areas that their spouses had neglected them. They believed what they were saying. Snatch them out of the fire - out of the lie. Slammed the phone down. Bawling under the desk. Phone rings - fellow crying uncontrollably. Like somebody ripped the veil off his eyes. I'm in hell. Told the wife to call as soon as he arrived. Wife didn't call. Now she is under the pressure to measure up. Slept together before Dan could get there. Insecurity. I feel like a whore.
1:01:20 - Hitting the table - because of soft pedaling the truth. Jesus was intense. I can't sit there and play hypocrisy and say I am a brother. Paul said, I confronted Peter to his face.
1:02:55 - Confronting others - snatching out of the fire - You can be angry without it being sin. It's sin if it is self-serving. But be careful that it's not a cop out for anger in your heart.
1:03:20 - Hitting the table (cont.) - Are we men of God? Then act like it right now. It was petty. But it was acceptable at the table.
* * *
1:04:10 - That will never happen to me. Strategy against you just to get you to eat your words.
1:04:45 - Offense and hurt. Snare - a trap set and you are about to be snared. You can only see through the offense and hurt. Unresolved marital conflict - festers.
➡ 1:06:55 - The only reason that I took you to this scripture - 1 Cor. 7:5 - was to show you that Paul is upholding fasting.
1:07:30 - Animal lover.
1:08:05 - BREAK
➡ 1:09:00 - I want to talk about praying in tongues for a little bit. So we can cover these two topics - fasting and prayer and praying in tongues.
Sexual Relations
1:09:40 - Start from selflessness - If you deal with your heart and motive first and get selfless, you'll interpret the Bible well. The motive you read your Bible in determines how you are going to interpret things. I've heard husbands and wives hold 1 Cor. 7 over on each other - Give the affection due to the other. "You need to just give it up."
1:10:10 - Firing up desire - Seeing the value of your spouse. Arousal. Lingerie. Firing up passions.
1:12:00 - Wife was freaked out when Dan got this revelation. It actually made her free.
➡ 1:12:40 - I have grace to finish this topic - Sexual relations.
1:13:00 - Sex life in marriage. I was expecting 4 times a week. I was miserable and full of strife anyway. So wife though if I don't do that he will be worse. So for 13 years she gave herself without really wanting to. Her heart died.
1:14:10 - Reconciliation - After I got saved... incredible experience of reconciliation - not sexual. Two days - don't remember taking care of the kids. We don't remember cooking. We were just together. When you surrender yourself the table is set to become love because love is not selfish. And selfishness isn't love.
1:15:15 - Had hated my wife - Why did I waste 13 years on her. I'm going to start over with another woman. Conversion. Half hour later I realized I loved my wife because love came into my life. I got born again. Inside my spirit was love.
1:17:15 - Wife not receptive at first - I don't think so. You just want to make me look like the witch.
1:18:00 - Emotional roller coaster - Teaching this class can be an emotional roller coaster. Last week on healing. Concern for the body. So many lies out there. Healing has been so butchered. We've profaned His name. We've misrepresented Him. Called Him the thief - put Him in total sovereign control - we've stepped out of the beauty and privilege of subduing the earth - and the authority through covenant.
1:19:10 - Christian TV. God am I being self-righteous? Judgmental? Ask the Pastor - answering out of doctrine instead of their relationship with Jesus.
[TAPE OFF?]
➡ 1:20:20 - Now that I just shared, I see what I am doing. He gave me grace to share that and turn off the tape for a minute.
1:20:30 - 1 Cor. 7:1 - Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. - And then I am done with this topic.
1:20:50 - Touching with desire - So is touching a woman wrong? No. Then what is he saying? Because Paul goes right into relationship, marriage and sex. Here's what it means. To touch a woman with desire.
1:21:10 - So is desire ever the reason that you touch even your wife? Or is is the value and beauty of her life through love. And her yielding to the awesomeness and safety of that love? Or is it just desire and sex drive and need? We need to be so challenged in this area.
1:21:35 - Maturing in Christ - Middle age for women -This is why many women, when they hit their middle years, go through so much trouble in their soul because they have carried this yoke their whole life. And now they are not the young woman any more. That the value of their life is being defined by their age and their looks. And they are trying to hang on to the young girl, when they are not the young girl. They are the mature, precious, beautiful, formed in Christ woman that they have grown to be. And you ought to be glad and smile when you look in the mirror and thank Jesus for what He is doing. If there is a man of God in your life, He would certainly understand that.
1:22:20 - You've got to be OK with who you are. And out of that confidence you will shine.
1:22:35 - Write a book - Christian books on this topic - not close to the truth. They present the world painted Christian. Why not write a book? The book is already written. If we would ask God to teach us in these areas. Asking Holy Spirit to teach in these areas (more)
1:24:30 - People often ask questions with their answer already in mind. Discerning the voice of the Lord through knowing the Lord's nature and character.
1:25:10 - God made us to be love. When you find love clearly, it will expose everything else that snuck through.
1:25:40 - 1 Cor. 7:1 - Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. - It means with desire. No one was created to meet your need at their expense in any way. We put expectations and demands on the other. We oblige them because the are kind of unspoken contracts.
1:26:35 - Burning with passion - v.8-9 - Look at verse 9 - I said I was done but I am not. - I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. - If they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry - for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. We hear that as permission to remain that way. But the answer is verses above that - break away and get into fasting and prayer so that you get your desires straightened out. Stop burning with passion.
1:27:40 - If your marriage is built on burning with passion, what happens if that should go away due to illness, accident, travel etc? He's saying rather than fornicate and violate your conscience, at least get into a covenant. But get a grip on yourself.
1:28:15 - All has to do with lack of self-control. It's not the will of God or healthy. So don't stay compromised. "Well, God knows how I am. He's the one that made us this way." No, He made you in His image.
Born Again Experience & Baptism of the Holy Spirit
➡ 1:28:40 - OK, I am done with that. We talked about the difference between your born again experience and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In the next session, let's just open things up to questions.
1:29:00 - [Housekeeping]
1:33:20 - Questions - from a right motive.
1:33:50 - Participant's comment and prayer for fellow participant.
1:35:20 - 1 Cor. 14 - v.1 - One of the questions on the "Ask the Pastor" TV show - Do you get the Holy Spirit when you are born again? - Well, you do. Your spirit gets reborn. You receive the Spirit of God in your spirit. And light comes and replaces darkness. You become wheat and not a tare.
1:36:00 - Two separate experiences - Jesus breathed on His disciples and said, Receive the Holy Spirit - John 20:22. But then He turned around in Luke and said tarry in the city for the promise of the Father is going to come upon you. You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you - Acts 1:8. Well wait, I thought you just breathed on them and gave them Holy Spirit. Why are they waiting for Holy Spirit? He's already... It's two separate things.
136:20 - It's a well springing up to eternal life - born again - John 4:14. And the other is a river coming out of your belly - bringing life where ever it flows - John 7:38.
1:36:40 - Acts 8 - Peter and John to Samaria for the purpose of laying hands on them to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit because they had only been baptized into Christ and Holy Spirit had not come upon any of them yet. If it was automatic, why did Peter and John have to go do that?
1:37:10 - Acts 19 - Paul sees disciples and asks - Have you received Holy Spirit since you have believed? If He is automatic, why would Paul ask? We haven't even heard that there is a Holy Spirit. What were you baptized into? The baptism of John. Now I get it - the baptism of repentance. Jesus came! Preached - they were born again and when Paul laid hands on them they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to pray in tongues.
Tongues
1:38:00 - Tongues - Struggling to receive - The outward evidence that seems synonymous with the baptism of the Holy Spirit - one of the things noted most often is praying in tongues. Struggling to receive - It can become a tongues instead of a receiving Him issue.
1:38:25 - How do you receive the Holy Spirit? - The same way that you were born again. How do you know that you are born again? Faith - you know. You receive the Holy Spirit the same way. how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? - Luke 11:13b.
1:38:50 - If you ask - He comes - Faith - Man's doctrines created around baptism of the Holy Spirit. External standards? No. If you ask, then He comes. If you preach that He didn't come then there is something wrong with the person receiving. And then it's He will only come if you get into order. If I get clean enough, He'll come. No, when He comes, He cleans.
1:39:40 - One lady who didn't immediately receive the baptism of Holy Spirit - everybody but me. He loves you. You ask. You receive. Don't tell them that their must be something holding them back. Don't go fishing. Word of prophesy given - time to forgive. Live in relationship. Left with all the money. She was bitter. When she released that, He flooded her. He was Fathering her.
1:42:50 - Manifestations vs. faith - I don't let people get deceived by manifestations or the lack of manifestations. We walk by faith, not manifestations. You walk by faith - you just know. The Spirit of God bears witness with my spirit.
1:43:30 - Receive by faith - People hurt in this area - baptism of the Spirit. Receiving. Receiving in faith...(more).
1:44:10 - People receiving baptism later - after being prayed for.
1:44:45 - You speak out the utterance - He gives the utterance. You've got to speak them. Open your mouth and speak them out. (He doesn't take over your lips.) It's like a water faucet. Tongues / English.
1:45:20 - Encouragement if you have been struggling. Singing in tongues. Interpretation - You prepare a place for me, My God.
1:46:55 - Interpretation - What's happening?
1:48:00 - What happens when you pray in tongues - You're edifying yourself. You're very conscious of the One inside of you when you are in that arena. Don't limit yourself in what might be possible.
1:49:00 - Experiences in prayer - tongues - interpretation. Speaking to me in English. You're my son... Calling Dan into more. God talking through your own spirit.
151:00 - Shallow prayers - Correcting words - praying religiously - saying all the right stuff. Oh, Dan you don't mean that or else you would have changed this (issue) after a year and a half. You've just learned to pray the right prayer. I am after your heart. I was crying about my ability to be shallow. Singing in tongues. Open vision interpretation. 3 legs of my Christian life. Other prophets have confirmed the words of the open vision.
153:30 - Public and private use of tongues - 1 Cor. 14 - v.1-2 - Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. - In chapter 14 Paul speaks a lot about prophecy and other tongues. He is encouraging praying in tongues in your personal life. And in public - if you use tongues in a service - there ought to be an interpretation. And if there is, the tongues and interpretation is on the same level as prophecy. But if there is no interpretation, it does no good to the hearer.
1:54:15 - [Example - tongues and interpretation] The purpose is intimacy.
1:54:50 - Tongues - Not speaking to men but to God.

She took a long time getting up front. "Holy Spirit would you come..." Fell to floor. Demons coming out.
